Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Giveaway! Micro Macrame

Another stunning piece from the book.

Hey, my friends – St. Martin’s Press has been nice enough to donate a copy of Micro Macrame (which I reviewed last night) for a giveaway.

So, you know what to do: leave a comment here and tell me about your own macrame experiences to date.

I’ll draw a winner at noon PST (or thereabouts) Thursday, June 25th. (And if anyone can explain to me how we’ve arrived at the third week of June already, that’s be great.)

International readers, you’re most welcome to enter.

Good Luck!

UPDATE: Congratulations to Emily, who just won the book!

SECOND UPDATE: Emily, in case you check back here – I’ve been trying to get an email through to you! I need your shipping address so I can send you the book.

THIRD UPDATE: Hi, Emily – I got your address! Thanks! Will ship your book ASAP. :-)

OMG!! I was addicted to macrame in the 70′s! My parents probably went broke feeding my macrame-making addiction. I had tons of books, reels of cotton rope in various colors (although I found the white/natural more aesthetically pleasing), about a bazillion gigantic wood and ceramic (butterflies!) beads, and brass rings of all sizes. The only thing I lusted after that I was never allowed to make – probably because they used about 50 miles of cord (and subsequently a small fortune spent at the craft store!)- were the hanging multi-tiered side tables and the hanging chairs. Hey…I’m all grown up now, I probably still have the books in the basement at my mom’s, I could probably find a source for the cord online, and I have a back porch with beams that would support the weight……..hmmmm………!

My first attempt at macrame was pretty disastrous, I used bugtail to try and make a cord for a pretty butterfly polyclay bead. It unravelled faster than I could knot it, and I never did figure out how to finish it!

I’d love to try again using the right material :)

I’ve never tried macrame, but this book looks amazing and I am excited to try it!

My main craft focus is cross stitch but it’s been making me blind lately so I am looking for a new craft. The book looks beautiful and I’d love to try it out.

  • I macrameed my toe into a plant hanger and had to have it surgically removed. My toe was fine, but the jute would never be the same.

It’s almost July because that means we have to start working on Halloween stuff so we can work on Thanksgiving stuff so we can work on Christmas and Chanukkah stuff. That’s why it’s almost July. Plus, I’m not ready. That’s the main reason.

Don’t look at me like this isn’t a scientific explanation.

  • I haven’t really had any experience with macrame in the past but this book looks great, the projects are gorgeous and I have tons of seed beads that I have no idea what to do with. This book would be a much needed distraction for me right now.

I haven’t had much experience with macrame aside from making some simple bracelets in grade school. My cousin & I have both been wanting to give it a try & this book is so perfect! I think there is a lot more potential for jewelry making than plant hangers in my house. Either way I can’t wait to give this book a try!

Did a few minor things as a child. I have a friend who does lovely small work now and this book would be an excellent excuse to sit down with her and be crafty.

I haven’t done any macrame in many years. A new bead store opened in my area and I’m not crazy about the classes they are offering. I was hoping to find another way to use the beads that I fall in love with daily. I have found it in micro macrame.

I’ve been beading for several years and have recently found micro macrame. Who knew macrame would become popular again. :) I’m currently working on a micro macrame and bead watchband. I’ve looked at some of the projects in Annika’s new book and they look fabulous. I can’t wait to check it out.
