I know what you’re thinking…
“Sure, Diane, that’s all well and good about that whole book thing, but WHEN are you going to get back to blogging about plastic canvas?!”
Well, at Urban Craft Uprising I got to meet Dawnise, who, in addition to being awesome, gifted me with some great PC stuff, including this magazine. Say what you will about that clown – I assure you that it, like Rome, was not built in a day.

Naked Leg Puppets? Queen and King of the Can-Can?

…But this one is freaking amazing – a new height of PC engineering. You require a closer look, I can tell.

See? Turning the 2D into the 3D. How is that done?

…By making a complex little cut, and then gathering the tops and bottoms together. I’m sorry, that’s absolutely genius.

I’m quite liking the cut-outs here, and the complexity of the snowflake. I might try something like this with my itty-bitty 14 count PC.

See, things like this are very helpful, because I’d totally mistake it for a pencil otherwise.

And then, just to haunt your dreams a little, here’s something I picked up from tinyrat a while back. A PC portrait, my friends, of Christopher Walken.
The shop is empty right now, but when I scored this, the artist also had portraits of Mr. T, Jackie Onassis, and Bob Ross.
…And you thought this medium had no creative potential.

love the snowflakes, very pretty project to make. I haven't used PC for so long, hmm going to have to see if the craft store has some. they should they have everything else
I've seen it at both Jo-Ann and Michael's stores, although they don't
often carry the tiny stuff. Have fun!
don't have Michaels or Jo-Anns here :/ the local craft store is just called “Craft Shop” lol but they have everything crammed into the space :)
“Craft Shop” – sounds like a great indie. Would love to see it!
next time I go I will get some pictures of the building, I could maybe sneak some inside shots too lol
3-D clown head + naked leg puppets + fancy engineering + Christopher “Googly Eyes On My Plants” Walken = Awesomest Plastic Canvas Post.
Ever.
I love it when you post about plastic canvas! Some good finds, there! love the portrait of Walken.
Hee hee… Thank you kindly!
CUH-razy stuff! I agree though, some of it is pure genius!
Heh – yes! What other craft medium provides engineering, stitchery,
and comedy simultaneously? :-)
I can't really think about the title Christmas Balls without giggling. I'm sorry, Jesus.
You have been a PC addict since – well – before that “vintage” magazine was written! One of these days I will have to share pictures some of my little treasures you made me.!
Christmas balls! Yes! Totally amazing. And Iknow we will all be waiting to see how your cut-out on 14 count PC comes out!
Where did you find the pattern for the cut-out snowflake box? Would love to try that one!
The title of the booklet is Snowflake Coasters, published by The
Needlecraft Shop, Big Sandy, TX. Author's name is Fran Rohus. I'll
bet eBay would have a copy sooner of later.
Wow. Freaky. Do you ever wonder what the next generation will be making fun of in 30 years?
I wonder about that all the time… :-)
This is cool, I remember doing this at primary school
I have a relative who is still obsessed with plastic canvas needlepoint. Over the years I've received numerous gifts from her — mostly for holidays. There's the door hangers, wreaths, easter baskets, tree ornaments, and the entire nativity scene. There's 3D PC cookie jars (What? Why? They get crumb-y!), kleenex box covers, and even spare-toilet-paper-roll covers. You should see her mom's house. She has every PC gift she's ever received from her daughter on proud display. The next time I'm over there, I'll try to snag some pictures for you…. I think she has one of those clowns….. :)
Wowee – THAT's something I'd love to see pictures of!
It's so cool that this actually looks like Christopher Walken. how the heck did that happen?
Ooh, how I've missed the PC! :) xoxo
Plastic Canvas in my opinion is very undervalued by many people because they don't recognize its potential. When you mention it, people automatically think Christmas ornaments & tissue box covers but that's really not the case. I've been doing PC since I was 9 (am 33 now) and have made some pretty cool stuff.
Pictures, Roadmeat, pictures! Do you have a website somewhere?
I have a flickr account… there's a set in there that's just plastic
canvas…

Great work! I've had your PC vase favorited in Flickr for a while now…
Thanks :)
