Sadly, book-related things have kept us out of the farmer’s markets the past couple weekends. But we did get in a quick visit to Orenco Market this morning. The light was lovely!
We scored two pints of these gorgeous blackberries, which might become muffins or smoothies if they last long enough.

…And I loved these interesting striped zucchini! I have this great recipe where they’re sauteed with olive oil and a little cinnamon. Can’t locate the link, sorry….

Exciting to see a few salsa ingredients beginning to pop up!
We were also hoping for pickling cukes, but not today. Hey, while I’m here – my pickled green beans came out tasty, but too tough to eat. Anyone have wisdom on what happened there?

…After all, you guys really know your produce! Hope you had a lovely weekend.

Re: the green beans – did you parboil them first? I did that before pickling mine and they came out perfectly
I didn't – the recipe I used said to put them in the brine raw. Maybe
that was the problem.
Also, I didn't taste the beans raw first – so possibly, they weren't
very tender to begin with. Too bad – really tasty brine!
I also used Haricots Verts when I did mine, which are automatically a lot more tender… or if you can get them, Baby Blue Lake Beans would be fantastic
Ooh – good point. I didn't think about differences in variety. Thanks!
last time i had a market quickie i got all in trouble and stuff.
yours seems safer.
The striped zucchini is called Costata Romenesco and they are the best tasting zukes. Bushes are mammoth and don't overproduce like most zukes do.
