The past few weeks have brought me several great new zines. This amazing thing, by Su Mwamba, makes me 100% happy.
If you’re not familiar with The Borrowers, they’re the subject of a delightful childrens’ book series. A race of tiny people who stay hidden from full-size humans, but “borrow” all kinds of things to help make their homes.

Inside the front cover is a pocket containing a sheet of music and a page from an original Borrowers novel (which Su rescued from a bookstore dumpster).

There’s also a magnifying lens. What’s that for?
Well, if you unfold that sheet music, you’ll find that the other side is printed with the layout for a tiny Borrowers zine! Just cut, assemble, and staple. And the magnifyer comes in really handy.

Inside the full-color pages, you’ll find a series of Borrower craft projects: a picture book made from stamps. A woven rug based on an old CD. A drawer made from a matchbox.

This is what I loved about these books growing up – The Borrowers are nothing if not crafty!
Su has also written a Brief History of The Borrowers, which is so much fun.

Speaking of matchboxes, there’s even a pattern to make one as a housing for your tiny Borrowers zine!

For my money, Su is one of the most accomplished, unique, and delightful zine-makers around. Her writing and design skills are excellent, and she always tucks in a little surprise. Like this Borrowers knitting kit!

..And I just feel compelled to point this out: Su’s business card?

Also a zine!
You can get a copy of this Borrowers zine, along with lots of fantastic others she’s produced, at Su’s Etsy shop.

I loved the Borrowers! You just reminding me of great books to start reading to my kids. Very fun zine, I just might have to get one, not for my kids, for me!
Wow. I've never heard of The Borrowers – but I sure want to search out those books now! Reminds me of that cartoon, “The Littles” which I loved. I haven't seen a lot of zines, but this looks like one of the best ever.
Wow, her zine is so creative! The pring and the design is so interesting. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I just added her to my favorites. :-)
This is amazing…I loved The Borrowers as a kid. Well, who am I kidding? I still love The Borrowers.

I work in a public library, and we refer to our customers as 'borrowers' – it always makes me think of the book :) The zine is lovely, thanks for sharing.
Wow – I've never heard of the Borrowers, but now I want to read the series – and the zine! So sweet.
Looks like Su's business card is an instant foldable book! I make these with my students all the time. They are a fun tool. :)
Awwww…
That is so delightful. I loved The Borrowers books, too, and read them to my nanny kids several years ago, another sweet memory.
This is totally incredible.
Su is amazing. I was lucky enough to get one of these zines, too… one of the best zines I've EVER seen.
