How to Weave a Ric Rac Lampshade

I’m hard at work finishing up the next ebook in the blogging series right now, so I’ll just pop in here to share a new tutorial I have up on CRAFT.

This lampshade project is, in fact, a little off-loom weaving project. You turn the shade itself into a simple loom, and then weave in various widths and colors of ric rac.

This project is part of CRAFT’s Home Sweet Home series, which has had lots of great projects for home decor and organizing.

…To answer your unspoken question, I got that gigantic yellow ric rac at Fabric Depot. It’s just over 1″ tall! (You can also get it online here.)

Anyway, the instructions are over here. Enjoy, and Happy Weekend!

Weave up lots of crafty projects, using simple stuff around the house in place of a loom. My ebook, Weaving Un-Loomed, shows you how!

I love me some ric-rac. I do have a question, though. Any reason one can't dispense with the weaving part and just glue the ric-rac on?
  • SisterDiane
You could, of course. But I like the woven element because it adds
additional texture, and it makes it easier to get the ric rac on
straight. It also takes the place of most of the gluing.
  • I love ric rac! I am so obsessed with it! I love this too! The different sizes aare so great and so fun!

Lol. You knew Exactly the question we'd have, didn't you. It was the first thing in my head after, "Oh. That is Adorable."

  • Jumbo Ric Rac makes me happier than a craft product should.

    This is bliss!
  • Diane, that is so cool! Makes me think about where I could need another lamp :)

Very cool. Reminds me of a crochet ripple blanket. This would look cool on a round pendant shade, too. I see it in one of those trendy all white walls and furniture with colorful accessories kind of rooms.
  • Saw this on Craft -- absolutely LOVE it! Great work, Diane!

    Thanks, Kelly!
