I hope you’re having a relaxing Labor Day Weekend. We had K’s nephew Logan, and Logan’s mom Jen, over for a little crafting – boy style.
K. had some great cardboard inserts from a computer-related purchase, and these made a perfect foundation for a Star Wars rebel base.

As you can see, it’s a bustling hub of activity. View screens are courtesy of the Hubble website.
Plus, as you can see, those metal beading discs are not only great for embroidery, they also make nice booby traps.

Excellent computer consoles are courtesy of Uncle K.

Jen provided the high-quality masonry on the outside.
…And, after mistakenly trying to provide teleport pads, I decided it was best that I stick with the role of Supply Wrangler.

That is such a fun idea! Very imagineative! I had a cardboard doll house when I was little, complete with elevator. We couldn't afford the real thing. I loved my doll house. I had more fun creating it than I did playing with the dolls.
How clever is that! Super-duper crafty!
I LOVE this. Way to go Aunty!
Duh! Teleporter pads?! (eye roll here …)
Ha! I had two little brothers who drove me nuts with that kind of stuff. I just saw a quote on Dustpan Alley's blog where her son said, “You're 39 and you don't know how to spell uzi!?” Boys.
But I totally recognized the beading discs. Brilliant! And the whole set up is awesome! What a great mix of DIY and print outs.
It totally reminds me of the Flaming Lips movie Christmas on Mars. They built all their space ship sets in their back yard. From the photo gallery on imdb you can see that most of the walls are covered in plastic margarine bowls. Someone ate a *lot* of margarine!
I LOVE this!!!! So smart. Awesome, 10 stars.
Wow. My husband is very impressed :)
Those are awesome links! And, yeah, I biffed on the teleport pads, big time.
Still, ask me any Star Trek question. Go ahead.
My friend (Jackie) sent me your link for my son. This is AWESOME! We love it! (He is a big-time Lego Star Wars fan!) Thanks for sharing this fun project!
Yippee, I'm glad you like it! It was a really fun afternoon project.
I'm DOOOOMED!!! what a great project.. but I'm DOOOMED! I have two little boys who will want to do this!
This is *so* rad! I wanna play with it! So fun – great work. You and K ROCK. :)
That is so cool and so clever. I never know what to do with all of the packaging stuff when my husband orders computer parts. You better believe I am going to experiment more now…thanks for the inspiration!
I love this beyond belief! Maybe this is what I need to do to get my husband to release his creative side! Brilliant and oh so fun!
Thanks! :-)
A most excellent rebel base for a most excellent nephew. Does that young man have any idea just how lucky he is to have two amazing parents AND an amazing aunt and uncle????
I have those exact same computer packaging inserts that for some reason I just couldn't throw away. I knew it was only a matter of time before I could find someone who made a cool use for it. THis totally rules!
Wow! I craft with my nephew Logan, too! This base looks incredibly realistic.
my boobys would never fall for such obvious traps. Srsly though. I am glad I'm not the only one who looks at those packing insert thingies and thinks “rebel base” (more or less).
