Last Market Post of the Season

I’m back at The Pumpkin Patch today, so I wanted to share the photos I took last week. This is a serious farmer’s market!

Oh, the gourds are so lovely. Thanks to all your helpful comments on the last market post, I’m happy to report that I cooked an acorn squash last week! It was super tasty – I used this recipe.

I also scored one of these bad boys – brussels sprouts on the stalk! I haven’t had sprouts in a long time – K. hates them. But after trying these, he came around. They’re soooooo tasty.

…And they have Moon Pumpkins! Around 100 pounds each. Wow.

Just to give you a sense of scale. You cannot believe how heavy this thing is. But the little kids totally love sitting on it for pictures.

We’ll be out there today and next weekend. Locals, if you’re in the area, stop by and say hello.

Oh – and I guess that means this year’s Farmer’s Market Flickr set is now completed.

Hee hee... They are a polarizing sort of vegetable. :-)
  • Those Brussels sprouts are AMAZING! I have some in my garden but they're still so small. I love the way they look on the stalk. My favorite way to eat them? With caramelized white onions, a bit of brown sugar and butter. They're my second favorite vegetable...yum!

OOh, that sounds good. I have a handful left - will try them this way. Thanks!
  • cut your sprouts in half. marinate your brussels sprouts in a ziploc bag with tamari or soy sauce, salt, and pepper. roast them in the oven.

    DELICIOUS.
