It was great to read all your stories of awesome indie craft stores last week!
…And this week, Pat and I have a more philosophical question for you:
How do you think shopping at an indie craft store is different from shopping at a big-box craft store?
Any answer is valid – if you prefer the big box, that’s totally okay. We’re looking for some specifics of what draws you to one kind of store vs. the other.

So, I’ll start things off…
I always love a visit to my independent crafty retailers – at least, the ones who keep a friendly, inviting store. I much prefer to use my craft dollars to support these folks in their business endeavors.
However, since I don’t have a car, I do have to consider travel time. I don’t always have several extra hours to trek to my favorite indies, so about half the time I end up at the nearby Jo-Ann.
My local superstore does have the benefit of carrying a huge variety of stuff, which is great for an omni-crafter like me. The service is pretty hit-or-miss, and rarely very personal.
It’s kind of like the difference between a lovingly-prepared gourmet dinner and a convenient meal from the Drive-Thru. Sometimes that fast food is the expedient option, but it’s rarely the most satisfying.
Okay – your turn!
