I’ve been meaning to show off some of the super-cool handmade goodies I scored over the Christmas season. Don’t you love this star, wound from magazine pages? What a cool variation on that magazine-page jewelry idea I did last year!

My grandmother sent the star from her recent trip to Provence, along with this fabric ornament. I like the overlap of the fabric points, pine-cone-style. Seems like you could do some pretty cool fabric flowers using this basic idea.

…And then there’s Chris, who blew me away with this garland. Those are old-school plastic slide mounts, covered with colorful duct tape. She even left the bottom of each frame slit open, so I could slip in some photos. But I don’t want to cover up any of those pretty art-bits she made.

Kate sent me these beautiful hair pins, which were made by Kasia Blue. Love!

This is the Darwin (as in, Charles) cameo Hope made, which I mentioned in yesterday’s post. I adore this thing. She’s an innovator, that Hope.

…And these are two ornaments my Mom made me. She used precious bits of Christmas fabric we’ve had since I was a kid. How awesome is that?

Yowza! You scored big time. Lucky you….
the star is so beautiful
Aww, great little things! Love the patchwork heart your mom made, I started a quilt like that (iin brown) last year but hmm… wonder where the pieces are now? In a pile of “things” somewhere… hehe. :-)
Lots of wonderful ornaments and love the one your mom made with old fabrics.

All beautiful- The corners of that paper star are so crisp!
Thank you, Diane. I forgot to take photos of that garland/box and it's nice to know I have one now.
That star is da bomb, so is the cameo, and HOW can your mom keep this up? There's GOT to be something we don't know… like, she has little helpers? She doesn't sleep? She's double-jointed? She can roll her Rs?
I remember your little bits of fabric! And gosh, the kanzashi!
Wow, I love the all! What a gorgeous and heartfelt haul. You are going to have the prettiest tree ever!
wow! all really lovely stuff. treasures of unique beauty – enjoy ‘em!
I really like the magazine star – might have to have a go at that!
love that pine cone ornament :) really nice looking and so many colour combinations could be used when making one
Wow. Somebody was on the nice list this year…
Heh heh – come to think of it, maybe she does have a band of magical night-elves or something. I don't know how she gets it all done, either! I even taught her to spend hours on the internet, and she STILL gets it all done! :-)
Lovely gifts! I see that your mom is a craft-supply hoarder like you (in the tidiest possible way, of course!). By the way – I loved the peek at your crafting space over at Craft.
Thanks! Yes, between my Mom and me, well, we could open a strange
craft store of odds and ends. :-)
I'm very excited about trying the magazine star. I have three very crafter daughters, aged 14, 10 and 7 and I'm hoping it will be easy enough for the younger ones to try. I need to find something useful to do with all of my old magazines. We've already started making envelopes with them and bows with a tutorial from What about orange. Thank you for this link. We love magazine art!

Beautiful creations… i love them all!
I love the magazine star and that garland is insane! How long did that take her to do?! I'd love to know how the Darwin pin was made. It's really lovely and looks like something she unearthed in an old trinket box.
