I have started using plastic canvas as a stabilizing method in felt food construction. I love that it's light weight, washable and holds up so much better than cardboard. Not sure if this counts as keeping plastic canvas alive but I think it is a much underutilized resource with a billion different applications.

I, too, have been trying to keep plastic canvas alive. I created all kinds of things with plastic canvas over the years but found the PC Kissees to be the most fun. I have a blog post on where to find some free plastic canvas kissees and the books I have found that were created for PC Kissees and whatever other names they were under. Stop on by and check out my blog post if you are interested in seeing these cuties.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I have this crazy idea of making my son series of stacking boxes/trays with various-sized holes cut in the bottoms to make a LEGO sorter... so the smaller pieces would fall through to the bottom, etc. (I saw a plastic version online but it was pricey!)

I've been downloading your podcasts and recently bought your building a blog audience e-book. Very educational!

Holly

www.stitchcraftcreations.com

I suppose you could - the trick in that case would just be to get them nice and snug over the canvas. It might make sense to do a few tiny stitches in the center of each panel to anchor the fabric to the canvas.

I'm intrigued by the fabric inserts... could you make them cover almost the entire sides of the box? And just have the yarn to connect the pieces?

When I was a kid I used to sneak around the corner and hang out with an unemployed woman in her 30's who spent her days smoking, drinking and watching soap operas. I knew I would get in so much trouble for going in her house but I didn't care because she taught me how to make plastic canvas furniture for my Barbies. We made stools, a vanity, beds, a couch and even a kitchen set. I remember the vanity had a tin foil mirror. I love plastic canvas so much! The colors you used are fabulous!
