Google Analytics Tricks for Crafters: Benchmarking

Here we go with another Google Analytics tricky trick. There’s an almost-hidden feature called Benchmarking that lets you compare your blog’s stats with those of other similar websites.

What Analytics subjects would you like me to cover in future videos? Leave a comment below!

Great info. I just modified my blog.

  • Walden

Very nifty. I love these tutorials! thanks!

  • Interesting – I don't know if our sites are just super-similar, or the benchmarking isn't that useful, but I just ran mine and my graphs all looked *very* similar to yours!

  • SisterDiane

Huh – that is interesting. Maybe some others who check out their benchmarking reports can report on whether their findings were different.

Thank you so much Sister Diane. I went to Google Analytics and found out that my blog/website wasn't even being tracked. (I'm still learning all this computer stuff and am self taught) So I installed the tracking code and when I went to check mine, my graphs were very different from yours. (you mention you wanted some of us to check our graphs)
I had been checking my page rank which continually said 0 so I think it was because there was no tracking being done. I appreciate you getting me on the right track.

Yay! I'm so glad it was useful, Nancy – and I'm glad to hear your graphs were different. Now you have piles of insight at your fingertips! :-)

  • *round of applause* I don't know if I ever would have found that part. Also, by posting this you are essentially doing the whole crafty community a public service. Now we all know how to do this and can all get better data. :) :) Sneaky, sneaky genius.

  • SisterDiane

HEY!! Right you are. I wish I could say that had occurred to me. But instead I'll say, you are a genius!

  • Great posts on google analytics – I've just watched all of them! Please post more!!!

Thanks, Rita – let me know if there are any specific parts of Analytics you'd like to see videos about.
