Yaaaay! The videoblog returns at last, and to celebrate, I leave my office and visit one of my favorite PDX places, Yarnia, with my Mom. Wanna see us get some custom yarn made?
(If you’re not local, you can also get the whole Yarnia custom yarn experience online.)
Oh – and here’s Mom’s take on the day!

Aw – how sweet!
Because of your earlier post describing Yarnia, (which is near my house but I thought was just another yarn store) I decided that could be something I could do together with my mom. We had a good time visiting Yarnia and the Mill End Store. She knits over 2500 hours a year – I try to stay away from the yarn arts due to having too many other hobbies. But I did pick up some yarn and a crochet hook. Anyway, my mom and I don’t really get along, but it was nice to have neutral subject to discuss and a way I could show interest in her hobby. She’s making me a big beautiful scarf for Christmas and I’m going to start work on a baby blanket for a friend that she’ll need in the next 2 or 3 years. ;-)
Thanks for your great blog!
Awesome video, Diane! :-) Your videos are always so interesting and funny. I'm sure it's a lot of work, but it's defenetely worth it as it's so interesting. It was fun to see you, your mom, the owner of the store and, of course, Pushkin!
You remind me I yet have to go the similar store we have here, in Montreal. :-)
I am some day so showing up in Oregon and hanging out with you and your Mom. What fun!! Thanks for sharing your day with us!!
Is this a promise? :-)
And you are awesome! I love your videos!! Thanks for showing a cool place like this. My town is small so i can only dream of wonderful stores like this.
Have a great weekend!
OOh! I think that Montreal store was Lindsey's inspiration for creating Yarnia! If you go, will you make me a video? :-) (So glad you liked the video – thank you!!)
Thank you, Mindy – keep an eye on that http://www.customyarn.com site – at least that's one way to have some of the experience. (Though definitely – being in-store is really fun.)
Spending part of the day with you at Yarnia, Diane, was just the BEST day ever! Well – truth be told, every day I get to spend with you is the best day EVER!
But – OMG what an amazing experience – I guess YOU would call Yarnia an “experiential shop”! Lindsay is a lovely and delightful woman. And I am so grateful for her help in selecting the yarns to use together to create the sock yarn. Left to our own devices, we might not have been too happy – me with the knitting and you with the comfort and wear-ability.
I know I am your mom and I am most likely a bit prejudiced, but I just love your videos! I love how you are just YOU! They are relaxed, and fun, and informative and fun and authentic – and did I mention fun?
And getting to see the “raw footage” being taken yesterday and in just hours the finished piece – blew even ME away! Well done you!
Aw, thanks, Mom! It was a really fun time, and I can’t wait for those socks!
Wow, that’s some quick turnaround on your posts :) I had a super fun morning with you guys, thanks for all the wonderful attention!
Best video yet Diane, love the editing and your sweet voice over telling the story – all so nice! I think you should make one every time you go craft shopping, book shopping… and so on. And the yarnia shop, they should pay you for this video for sure! Thanks for sharing!
that looks like a lot of fun :) and so many colours!!
Oh, Diane, what fun! Thanks for the virtual Yarnia experience! Great video. And I loved Pushkin’s cameo appearance. :) What a handsome boy.
Actually, I’ve never been to that store in Montreal, so this will give me a good reason to head over there! :) I’m really interested in video on the web, as well, so I’m certainly keeping this in mind for a next blog post! :)
Amazing! Half of me is SO happy I live no where near that store. :) So great to see Pam’s smiling face. xoxo! I love the videoblog!
Awesome video! I love that place! I mean I have never been there, but wow, it just looks so fun to be at.
I *will* learn to knit this winter. My only goal is to make socks. And maybe fingerless gloves. And maybe scarves. No wait, I will learn to knit socks. That is all. :)
Diane, your hair looks fabulous! (Great yarn, too)
Aw, thanks, Cami – much appreciated during this “wings” phase of grow-out. :-)
This place is so freaking awesome! It is so great that you can order online, however, nothing beats seeing yarn in person! I would love to visit. Big hugs to you and your cute mom (aka my online Mumma)
