Hello there! I'm Sister Diane and I have two grand passions: making crafts and making media. That's what I write about here, and sometimes, I get all thoughtful about internet culture and creative small businesses. Thanks for stopping by! Would you like some tea?

Ebook Review: Handwork for the Holidays

handworkcovermedium

I love, love, love seeing holiday crafting ebooks coming out! This one, Handwork for the Holidays, is from Katie and Laura of Duo Fiberworks. They love knitting, sewing, and paper craft, and they’ve created a collection of gift-worthy projects based on these techniques.

The book is divided into three sections: Decorations, Gifts for Children, and Gifts for Adults. I have to say, there are some truly wonderful christmas ornament projects in here! (I’m a total sucker for a nice diorama ornament.)

And I love how the kids’ projects are playful (like the adorable felt fishing set) and the adult projects are useful (like the pretty firewood carriers and this cowl).

In all cases, the project instructions are very thorough, including full patterns and templates. (Even full-color, full-size templates, in the case of the cute bird and cuckoo clock ornaments!)

Oh – and for those counting, there are eight knitting projects, three sewing patterns, and three paper craft projects. There’s a nice range of simple stuff for beginning and intermediate crafters, and a couple things that will give more experienced folks a little challenge. You can see more project pictures over here.

And I think the thing I’m most excited about here is the design – both of the projects and of the ebook itself. Katie and Laura have made a collection that really speaks their personalities, and it’s all presented in a really beautiful, clean way – a nice balance between eye candy and easy printability.

If you’re starting to think about what to make for whom this year (and boy, is it ever time), Handwork for the Holidays is an excellent place to start.

(Oh – usual disclosure: Katie and Laura were nice enough to send me a review copy.)
