If you’re a fan of Tiffany Threadgould (as I am), then you’ll be happy to know that her first book is just out! ReMake It!: Recycling Projects from the Stuff You Usually Scrap is a fun collection of simple projects to make from all kinds of material you can probably find in your recycle bin right now.
The book is positioned as a kids’ craft book, but many of the projects would be completely useful and fun for adults. With simple tools, you’ll be making all kinds of organizers, boxes, bags, decor items, frames, and jewelry in no time. I really love how most of the projects yield useful items – what a nice way to teach kids to think about giving new life to old stuff! This would be an awesome book to work through with your kids this Summer.
I’m participating in the book’s blog tour, and had the option to share one project from the book with you, so I jumped on these awesome Butter Tub Buttons. What a cool idea for using an empty plastic container with good graphics on it – cut it up and use it to fasten your shirt!
So, if you click on the image below, you can download your very own PDF copy of the project instructions. Cool, right?

I think Tiffany is a genius. If you haven’t already, do check out her RePlayGround website, which is chock full of great ideas for recycled crafts of all kinds.
…Also, rumor has it that there might be a (ahem) giveaway (ahem) here tomorrow.
(Oh – and as always, disclosures: many thanks to Sterling Publishing for the review copy. The title link above is an affiliate link.)

Those would be such a fun conversation piece! Thanks for the excerpted project, I’ll be spreading the word.
That is a fabulous idea. The brain is whirling as I type this. The book is a must have,I’ll be popping over to visit Tiffany’s blog in a minute.Thank you Diane
My daughter and I have made purses out of her out grown jeans. The one’s with the fun embroidery make really fun purses. Our family saves all sorts of bottle tops for the art teacher at the school my husband teaches at. He has students make the most amazing collages and sculptures out of them.
Diane – your butter tub buttons are yet another fabulous idea and completely bonkers – and right up my street!
They are fun, aren’t they? But they aren’t my project – they’re Tiffany Threadgould’s design – the author of this book!
