Review (and Giveaway): Little Crochet

littlecrochet_2

I don’t typically do much kid-craft coverage here, but I’m a fan of Linda Permann‘s work, so I was thrilled to be part of the blog tour for her newest book, Little Crochet: Modern Designs for Babies and Toddlers.

Linda’s done a very adorable collection of clothing, cuddles, and gifts for little ones aged 4 weeks to 4 years. Clearly, I need to adopt some more kids (in a “cool aunt” capacity, of course).

Linda does very good crochet instruction, too, so beginners will find the opening chapter of basics very useful – especially where pattern sizing is concerned. What I think is great about Little Crochet is, even as a beginning crocheter, you can approach many of the projects right away – and then grow into the more complex ones.

littlecrochet_6

Case in point: you could start with some fun crochet embellishments on ready-made tees. Or make a stack of washcloths for the nursery.

(Also, are you kidding me?! Why do I not own a rocket-ship shirt?)

littlecrochet_5

…And then you could move up to a simple garment, like these leg-warmers. (Those little boots are killing me.)

littlecrochet_4

Each garment pattern is written in a range of sizes, with measurement cues to help you choose the best one for your little one. (Maybe go a size up, in case it takes you longer to finish than you think!)

I absolutely love this little dress. I wonder how hard it would be to grade the pattern up for someone who’s, say, 528 months old.

littlecrochet_3

It’s not all garments, of course. There are blankets, from this simple square-based motif to some beautiful lacy designs to provide a little challenge for more experienced crocheters. (I love the application of embroidered details here.)

littlecrochet_8

…And I love the toy patterns! This ball has jingle bells inside it, and what a fun way to practice color-work!

littlecrochet_7

If you ask me, there aren’t enough crocheted giraffes in the world. Actually, you should watch this adorable stop-motion video trailer – if showcases even more of the projcts:

Cuuuuuute!

littlecrochet_9

Each pattern is presented in both text and diagram form, which I always love in a crochet book.

There’s a Giveaway!

Potter Craft has kindly donated a copy of Little Crochet for me to give away here. So to enter to win, just comment below and tell me about the kiddo you plan to do some crochet for. We’ll draw a winner at random at noon PST Tuesday, April 12th.

(Oh, before I forget – disclosure time. Potter Craft sent me a review copy. The title links are affiliate.)

I would love to crochet up some of these projects for our best friend’s little girl, Everleigh. Ev is 7 months old, and they let me in the room when she was born! Her mother loves art and truly appreciates hand-made items. Recently, I sewed some tiny stuffed animals for Everleigh (inspiration from Martha Stewart’s “Encyclopedia of Sewing and Fabric Crafts”) and she loves them! Would like to try my hand at these projects!

Not sure what I love more..the adorable patterns or the adorable children. I’ve got three mommy friends due this week (well, one due last week…come on, baby) and another due next week. I have many babies who need adornment. I knit but have been wanting to learn to crochet..even just bought a crochet hook set.

My daughter taught herself how to crochet but has had trouble making booties. I would gift this book to her so she can continue to grow as a craftsperson and make adorable things for my grandbabies.

  • I crochet for me and my family all the time. All the crochet childrens items that I don’t sell go to the cutest niece and nephew on earth, Chelsea and Aiden. Chelsea is 8 and has some pretty cool items that Aunt Sherri had made for her and Aiden is 1 1/2 and also has a few pretty cool items that Aunt Sherri has made for him. I would so love to win a copy of this book but if I don’t I just might have to buy one ;) hypersky5athotmaildotcom

We recently welcomed our nephew to the world and I would crochet the giraffe and the play ball for him. These patterns are unique yet accessible. The styling in the book is seriously killer! Thanks for hosting the giveaway.

I just love the look of these designs! I think my 50 something sister needs that owl pillow. Not a kiddo, per se, but one at heart for sure. She adores owls and uses them subtly in her home. I’d love to gift her one of those pillows looking oh so sedate and pretty on one side and then POP the owl face on the other. Of course then there are the nieces and nephews that are candidates for the other yummy designs…

  • This book looks delightful and inspiring. I crochet for my 19 month old grand-daughter. That little dress would be so cute on her. Please enter me into the drawing. Thanks.
