So, earlier today I had an email from my Mom. The subject line read:
Do me a favor. Sort of an order.
Well, you know that when your Mom gives you an order, even “sort of,” you should listen. Here’s what she asked me to do…
“Since you just came out of a very intense week of re-directing your blog, and you’re now embarking on a more personal style that makes you happy, I think that sometime today, you should get a personal project, go outside, and just enjoy a little crafting-for-you time. Then take a picture and share that with us.”
Those Moms, Man. They always know what’s best. She was totally right.
Happy Easter, and Happy Weekend, everyone!

i didn't make it through all of the comments on the last posts, but i read enough to know you've been really working hard! i think you might consider adding a donation request to your already produced content.
i see a lot of sewing/knitting/etc. patterns being sold as pdfs on etsy. betz white seems to do really well with it.
Thanks, Kendra – I might, down the road. I need some space to think that through.
I hope you and your littles are enjoying this pretty weekend!
Excellent :-) And a totally appropriate way to spend Earth Day (unlike me, who went to Target without reusable bags and came home with five more plastic ones. sigh.) Happy Easter!
Sniff! Sniff! I smell a plarn bag in your future. It’ll pop on the needles or loom just fine!
Yaaaaaaay! I am so glad you got out of the house and played. I thought your hexies were gorgeous when they were all piled together on your coffee table. But they are even more amazing stitched together. My eyes love looking at your hexies.
Is this my Christmas present?
ooh that looks great in the sun :) all that colour :)
yep, she was right. you need crafting time for yourself after this week on your blog :)
This is so pretty. I love crafting outside. I have a big weekend of making things coming up, and it never occurred to me to go outside again. It’s been a long time since I painted outside. But the weather should be mild, clear, and it will be calm. I’m going to paint and listen to birds. Thanks to Pam for this great idea. She really is amazing, which everyone can tell just by seeing how cool YOU are, Diane! In any case, getting back to basics can really be the only way to remind yourself why you jumped into the pool in the first place.
I’m so glad you did!
This is beautiful!!
Love the colors in it!
So good. You know I love this. :)
Mother always knows best….!
This makes me smile so big.
Smart mom. I sincerely hope that when my girl is grown up and smart that I’ll think to say things like this to her and she’ll be savvy- and open-to-me- enough to listen.
Love that photo! Especially the relaxing it represents. :)
Ha! Even so, it was probably 10/o or smaller seed beads! Nothing you want to search for on your porch in any weather!
Extremely, extremely!
Beautiful shot. I have perhaps a stupid question, but since I know next to nothing about quilting…did you hand-sew those hexies together? Or are they pinned together? I love your choice of fabrics. And that your mom knows a lot about what makes you happy.
Not a stupid question at all! Here’s a good photo tutorial of the process: http://sunshinescreations.vintagethreads.com/2007/03/tutorial-on-english-paper-piecing.html They’re joined by hand with a tiny whip stitch. It goes a whole lot faster than you might think – a good “evening TV” craft. :-)
Mom’s know best.
And THANK YOU for sharing the link (in the comments) to the photo tutorial! I just recently bought paper hexagons because I want to learn how to do them this year. I haven’t bothered looking for a tutorial yet because I just haven’t had time. Tomorrow my semester is (for the most part) over and Monday, that link is the first thing I’m reading (craft wise anyway!). :)
I love your mom :)
So do I! :-)
