So, the most amazing thing happened...

29 Apr 2011

hello_goodbye

OK, here's why I have such a "Deer in the Headlights" face in that photo.

You may have seen the announcement by now – I'm the new Editor-in-Chief of CRAFT.

(I can't believe I just said that out loud.)

You should read it in her words for sure, but our beloved Natalie Zee Drieu has decided to move on from CRAFT and focus on her family. She will be so sorely missed as the guiding hand behind what has always been my favorite craft website, but I do love the fact that she'll be crafting with her daughter and maybe even making a little something for herself now and then. (She'll also be blogging over at Coquette and Coquette Maman.)

Nat and I have been hard at work all week transitioning, and yesterday I got to visit the MAKE offices in Sebastopol and meet all those nice people whose pictures appear in the CRAFT sidebar in person. (They are amazing. The offices are amazing.) While I was there, Brookelynn snapped the awesome polaroid-esque photo above of Nat and me.

I'm proud to say that I've been actually in the site today, entering posts and doing editor-type things! I have a lot of information to absorb, and a lot of learning and adjusting to do, but lordy. This is an absolutely delightful and exciting challenge. To me, CRAFT is so much more than a collection of pretty pictures. It's a driving force for originality and pushing the boundaries of what craft can be. CRAFT has helped me think about making things in new ways more than any other website. What an honor to be part of it.

I think I'll take a couple weeks off blogging over here – I just need time to get my bearings. But I'll be back, and we'll keep talking about crafts and community.

And plastic canvas. Of course.

Yay!!! for you Diane! Your mum has just emailed me with the fabulous news!
I've been told before that when everything seems the worst and it all seems so hard, try to remember that it usually means that something wonderful is just around the corner. So perhaps this is what all that upset with your burnout etc last year was all about! You've just turned that corner.
I'm sure you're the perfect one for this job!
Big hugs. xoxo

Happy happy joy joy. That's the dance we do here in N.E. when all the pieces of the puzzle start coming together. So happy for you! Kisses Hugs and know you will do a super job

So many wild & huge congratulations. Your voice via the CraftPod podcast has motivated me as I painted my first studio in Florida and during many a late night craftathon. Your blog and presence online has provided SO much thoughtful commentary on craft today. I honestly can't think of someone I'd be happier to hear is leading the good ship Craft. Huzzah!

You will be such a great editor-in-chief for CRAFT. I still have all my CRAFT magazines from when they were printed. And, when I did a craft fair in montreal, they were one of our sponsors. So, I only have good words for them!
So, so, so exited and happy for you. :-) Long live to you and CRAFT!

Congratulations, Diane! What awesome news!

Congratulations! I haven't been reading blogs (or blogging!) for months and I am happy to read this! I love CRAFT (and your blog of course) and am excited to see what comes next. My semester is over tomorrow and I look forward to diving back in, catching up on what has been going on and seeing the greatness continue. :)

I'm going to add my congratulations to the looong list: yay!! Congratulations!! Also, if you are ever in Sebastopol again, I used to live near there and I worked at an amazing bakery call Wild Flour Breads (http://www.wildflourbread.com/). Go, you won't regret it! and get some fougasse (cheese bread) for me.

Hearty Hearty Congratulations!
