It was a classic early-season farmer’s market visit this week – four-dollar-a-pint strawberries and abundant flowers. I’m so happy summer has finally arrived and I can dip into this goodness every weekend.
Here’s my other early-season obsession: sugar snap pea pods. I’ve never been a big fan of cooked peas, but I eat the living heck out of these things raw, pod and all. If you’ve never tried this, you now have a homework assignment.
…For the record, we chowed those expensive strawberries within a couple hours. In a few weeks, they’ll be everywhere, and about half the price, but that certainly won’t stop us from overpaying and gorging next year.
Onions were spendy (that’s a PDX word) this week, too. But aren’t these pretty?
…And oh, lordy, the flowers! Two weeks ago, tulips were everywhere, and this week, it was all peonies and sweet peas and dianthus.
There are a few more images in ye olde Flickr set, for those who also worship produce.
Hope you’re having a lovely weekend!
