How I supported some Free in May

“Tipping isn't just for cows!”

This month, my supporting Free project had a fun personal angle. My Mom and I have formed a little pact: for our birthdays, we’ll give each other “wish lists” of items we’d love to buy in support of our crafty community. So, since her birthday was in early May, I got to do some shopping for her!

Here’s what she got: first, a beautiful crochet hook with a handmade polymer clay grip, from Lisa of Polka Dot Cottage. I have one of these babies, too, and they feel so nice in the hand. Mom loves hers.

Erin of Elysian Studios makes beautiful trade beads, and Mom wanted some to use in making her tin butterflies and dragonflies. The colors were even more vibrant in person!

(Pushkin was indeed a little miffed that nobody got him anything.)

…And lastly, since Mom taught herself to knit using internet how-to’s, she’s all about the fiber. She asked for a cone of this lovely stuff from Yarnia, and she’s knitting up a scarf.

I love this pact! The only downside is waiting all the way to October for my birthday. But I already have my wish list. :-)

  • I love your blog and I wanted to let you know that I so love your idea of “supporting free” that I talked to my sons about it. Their online community is way different from mine but the same applies. I was thrilled to hear that they make it a habit to use the “donate” button on the sites that offer free stuff. Thank you for inspiring me in not just crafty ways. :-)

  • Great idea to trade lists, I love it! I might need to start a similar pact with my hubby and make a similar list with similar things on it. :)

The very best idea i have had in years! I figured it was a really great way to put our money where our mouth is – so to speak.

I don’t feel at all sorry for you waiting til October!!! I already have a new list and now i have to wait til next May!!! Unless of course we want to make this a Christmasy tradition too!

    Sharing close-ups of everything soon!

  • You mom is so gorgeous. I just love her :)

And my mum’s birthday is in May too – what a coincidence!
