I Heart Craft Books Video: Rustic Wrappings, with Kerry Bogert

I’m still playing with new ways to do craft book coverage, and here’s my latest project. I thought it might be fun to combine meeting the author with some visuals of the book’s projects.

rw_coverHere, we’re meeting Kerry Bogert, whose new book Rustic Wrappings: Exploring Patina in Wire, Metal, and Glass Jewelry combines her mad jewelry skills with some fun methods for creating various patina finishes. I learned some really fun things about working with metal in this interview.

  • I loved seeing this come to fruition. Great job Diane & Kerry.

  • Diane, wow! This was the best book chat ever. Not sure you can call it review (then you should’ve talked a bit in the beginning about the book perhaps) but it gives a great glimps of the books content and a peek at the author: when does that happen! I totally love it! I want the book!

    • True – it’s hard to call this a “review” per se – I know I’ll only feature books I really like in this context, but still. Maybe it would be good in future to post a capsule review below the video, with some deeper points about the instructional quality. But I’m so glad you liked this format of author chat and project images! (And it sure helps that Kerry is a super good designer who comes up with awesome projects!)

  • What a great way to present a book! I totally love it! To know the auhtor makes all the difference. Thanks for coming up with new things!

  • I think this format was really effective as a book review. I don’t make jewelry, but seeing the author talking about the projects and techniques makes me really relate to her and understand her passion for this craft. I’m really glad you interspersed project photos with the interview footage. I think that’s really necessary to imprint on viewers which book this is so that we’ll recognize it when we’re shopping. As to Hannah’s comment, she is right that this isn’t a review per se, but I think we can come to recognize if Diane has included it in this video series it is a book that Diane is giving her stamp of approval to and that means plenty!

    • You are awesome, Abby – thank you so much for this detailed feedback! It’s nice to hear from you and Hanna as non-jewelry-makers, too. I’d love for this series to be as much about creative inspiration from lots of different disciplines as it is about the books.
