Carol Barton is one of my favorite self-published craft authors. She’s just released her third book, The Pocket Paper Engineer, Volume 3: V-Folds: How to Make Pop-Ups Step-by-Step – and like its two predecessors, it’s an engaging workbook with all your project materials bound inside.
Pop-ups are great for cards, handmade books, and also for teaching kids principles of geometry and engineering. Carol’s books contain pre-printed projects you can cut, fold, and glue, and then you can take the concepts you learn and make your own designs.
In this interview, we talk about the new book, Carol’s approach to teaching, and her journey to self-publish these books.
You can also see her first two paper engineering books here and here. And, visit her website, Popular Kinetics Press!

I do a little bit of card making. The pop ups in the video are cool. I will have to see if I can get a copy of one of her books. I love the idea of being able to make pop up cards.
I really like how Carol teaches the concepts alongside the projects. Hope you enjoy the books!
