I’ve been waiting for this book to come out! Anyone who’s followed Abby Glassenberg’s blog over the years knows that she knows a thing or two about how soft toys are constructed. And Lark Crafts has done a splendid job of presenting the breadth of her knowledge in this book, Stuffed Animals: From Concept to Construction.
This book is two things: a collection of cute patterns to make, and a compendium of lessons on the finer points of making soft toys. Stuff like shaping with gussets, building eyelids and foot pads, working with pile fabrics, making jointed limbs, and adding sound gadgets. In other words, serious toy-making!
In this video, Abby and I talk about what it took to make a book this comprehensive. She also shares one of her favorite softie-making tricks, and we peek at a bunch of the projects. Enjoy!
