I do love a high-value craft book – one I can keep on my shelf and refer back to over time. Skirt-a-Day Sewing: Create 28 Skirts for a Unique Look Every Day is definitely one of this type. Nicole Smith, a longtime sewist and teacher, has come up with a wonderful package here: first she teaches you to draft your own basic “sloper,” or straight skirt pattern, from your measurements. And then she walks you through altering that pattern to create 28 different styles of skirt.
…And it’s not just slapping on an applique here and popping in a gusset there. From your sloper, you can make wrap skirts, flared skirts, zippered and buttoned skirts, pleated and scalloped, short and kicky or long and professional. And all of them will fit you beautifully!
In this video, I talked with Nicole about the origin of Skirt-a-Day Sewing, and why she loves wearing things she made herself. We also show off a bunch of those skirts!
